King's Pines is a small neighborhood in East Billerica, on the east side of Andover Road between the railroad and Salem Road, the Canal Street of the plan. In September 1914 Clarence E. Carter, civil engineer, of Reading drew the "Plan of King's Pines, East Billerica, Mass., owned and developed by B. M. Hein," recorded on October 1, 1914 (Plan Book 32, Plan 4), next to Hein's King's Corner plans of earlier that year. Most lots were 25 feet wide, and the plan printed an official price list for every block.
It laid out Hill, Farm, Plain, Center, Filer, Little and Border Avenues running from School Street toward the railroad, and School Terrace, Kitchen Avenue and Charles Avenue running from School Street to Canal Street and the Bay State Street Railway, beside the Richardson School. Few of these streets were built. School Street probably survives as part of Staples Street, and Kitchen Avenue keeps its plan name. The land filled with houses only in the 1980s and 1990s, on Ross Road, Demolay Court, Tow Path Drive and Carley Way.
